Booksellers wield a lot of power in the marketplace. They can revive a backlist book and find new audiences, affect sales of new titles, and host events that increase book visibility. Most importantly, they spend their days talking about books with readers.
On this panel, we will discuss, among other things, author/bookseller allyship and the bookstore as an important third place within your community. We will also address the social responsibilities of booksellers, how this career fits with a writing career, how to get your self-published book into a bookstore, tips for self-advocacy as a published author, publishing trends, and answer any questions you may have about how books are sold.
Mo Daviau is the author of the novels Every Anxious Wave and Epic and Lovely, forthcoming this fall from West Virginia University Press. Katherine D. Morgan is the author of the debut chapbook No Self-Respecting Woman. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming at Huffington Post, Bitch Media, LitHub, The Rumpus, and HelloGiggles, among others. She lives in Portland, Oregon, where she owns Grand Gesture Books, a new romance bookstore.
